We found out that Film Noir has a distinct Visual Style consisting of low-key lighting schemes which produces stark light/dark contrasts and dramatic shadow patterning.
Characters are partially obscured by darkness which is rare in modern films, black and white cinematography is considered one of the essential attributes of Film Noir.
We also found that Film Noir's tend to have unusually long-winded story lines, of which frequently involve flashbacks and other editing techniques that disrupt the narrative sequence.
Voiceover narration, which is mostly used as a structuring device, came to a Film Noir trademark.
